pilsen arts walk

the chicago art district's artists open house was this weekend.

my favorite installation was "unseen current" at extension gallery:

a description:

"Unseen Current" is a navigable billow of fog flowing through Extension Gallery. Three thousand hanging strings or "catenaries" totaling 10 miles in length span between the walls of the gallery in precise arrangements. From the gallery entry, this three dimensional array of catenaries suggests a distinct shape; upon moving to its center, it evokes a rolling fog. To this end, custom software was developed to explore the form of (and generate the plans for) the project. Like a pointillist painting in space inspired by the smoggy sky of Los Angeles, the color of the installation gradates from a rich orange to sky blue.

Architect Philip Johnson's ethereal hanging-chain window treatments at the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York also served as inspiration for the project. Ball-Nogues "sample" what was essentially a two dimensional decorative motif for Johnson then reinterpret it for their three dimensional modulations in the gallery.

another installation:

after dealing with a water smudge on some art we purchased, it was back to my weekly commute, unusually on sunday and unusually at o'hare, to work after a short weekend in chicago:

pittsburgh ped

i recently scooped this '96 Tomos Targa LX for use while i'm in pittsburgh (dont mind the letter stickers and rear toolbox, they need to come off quick!)

i got a good deal considering it already has a kit, low bars, ebr fork, pipe, air filter, and round headlight. it can currently do about 50mph, but should be able to do 55+ with a tuned carb and better exhaust. it does need some work though. as you can tell by the picture, it is currently not potty trained and possbily needs a transmission rebuild along with new main bearings. i plan on bringing back to chi in the winter and giving it a nice tuneup and doing some additional nice things to it.

check out the side kickstand and gangsta lean:

oh yeah, just another thing. i cruised it tonight and the chain fell off on me:

planning on bringing some gloves/tools and fixing it next week.

of course, shouts to the westin for letting me keep it in their covered garage free of charge. i knew this platinum status would come in handy.

personalized service... blah

i've been staying at hotels so much that i've begun to receive gifts upon checking in recently. hah, a cheese platter here and plate of fruit there, free in room movies and mini bar credit, as well as free drinks from the restaurant/bar and personalized messages and greeting cards waiting for me.

i hope they know that i don't really care about any of this stuff as long as i get my points (going on 2 weeks free at westin, sheraton, or W anywhere in the world) and a place to park my moped indoors for free ;)
